Egg-ceptional Centerpiece

Wishing you a sweet holiday.   I made polymer clay chocolate eggs, decorated them and glued them to a Styrofoam tree.  I filled in the empty spaces with some dried moss, tiny flowers and leaves.

Egg-stra Special Necklace

My polymer clay egg charm necklace (made from scrap clay) and carrot earrings from last Easter.  Fun to wear!

Betrayal

One of the abstract collages I did for the art fair.  I was inspired by the story of Judas, his cowardly act of betrayal.  I started thinking about spineless people who go along with the crowd, intentionally hurting another. Or those who keep silent because they don't want to get involved; don't want to rock the boat; inadvertently hurting another.  My slouching figure cannot rightfully hold his head high.  He cowardly hides behind "anonymous".  He faces away from the light.  He has no eyes, ears or mouth because he cannot see, hear or speak the truth.  No hands or feet due to his inability to make amends.  Good Friday has me deep thinking.  Happier thoughts tomorrow (promise).

Spring Art Fair 2013

Last Saturday was our one day local art fair - 8 am to 3 pm.  We had beautiful Arizona weather, but we didn't have the number of attendees we normally do.  I had a terrible location (behind a door) due to a glitch in the system. Needless to say, I did not do well.  But, it was in the shade and had a nice breeze, but very little traffic.  The best part of the day was visiting with good friends who stopped by to wish me well.

Warning: Snakeskin Collage

Snakes and snakeskin give some people the heebie, jeebies.  I happen to love the colors and textures of their skin.  I used Golden gel to coat the sheet (some kind of packing material) and applied it to the canvas.  Turned out so cool.

Abstract Textile Painting

One of the abstract textile paintings I did for the art fair today.   Oh, I had fun creating this one.

Ripple Polymer Pendant

Embedding sturdy jump rings into the back of a polymer clay piece to create a finding is neat, clean and effective.  It accomodates thick or thin neck pieces and I love the way the pendant hangs.

Revolving Jewelry Display

It displays 45 to 50 necklaces in an 18" diameter space.  It is a formidable display when sitting on a table or counter as it stands 45" high.
After attaching the base and top, I added the jewelry hangers and hung the cork necklaces.  I dressed it in a pretty blue top and added some of my bead crochet necklaces.  It all comes apart so I can store it, but I like it so much, I'm going to use it in my studio.  But, I am so glad it was finished in time for this Saturday's art air.

Polymer Maghong Tiles

I made some polymer clay Maghong tiles that I will make into a necklace sometime this week.  I don't play maghong so I don't know much about it, but I love all the tile patterns. I had the mold and I mixed a beautiful blue, so what the heck.  My maghong playing friend came over last night and told me (very emphatically) there would NEVER be maghong tiles this color and shape!  Oops.
Last minute, I am making more cork necklaces and putting the base coat on some paper mache' ornaments.

Mixed Media Painting

"For God and Country" is one of the mixed media paintings I'm finishing up for our local art fair March 23.  I'm also working on polymer clay pieces and a new display for my booth.  Every surface is covered with projects in progress.  It's visually overwhelming, but I'm so excited, having so much fun and in hyper drive.  The hubby, not so much.

Shoulder Dusters

I felted some spikes, threaded a sterling silver headpin through the end, pulled it through a sterling silver cone, secured with jewelry glue, formed a wire loop, hung it on the earring wire, sewed some beads on and I was dusting my shoulders in no time.

Upcycle From Purse To Belt

A scratched up vinyl purse for $1.00 and a 69 cent purse strap (minus the purse) upcycled to a belt and a necklace.  When I took the photo of the belt by itself on the torso, it was lost.  So, the necklace was an afterthought to balance out the photo.  I'm quite happy with the belt, but the necklace is another story.
But definitely a fun remake.

Painting, Polymer & Magnets

The background for the polymer clay tile is an acrylic painting I did of the polymer clay cane patterns on the tile.
By using a magnet on the back of the canvas, I can change the position of the tile.

Magnetic Polymer Art

A 15" x 48" painting I textured and painted in acrylics.  I drilled out a small circle about the size of a nickel on the back of the wooden squares and circles (tiles).  I applied polymer clay canes to the fronts and baked them.  After they were cooled, I painted them and glued super magnets in them.
I hold the tile on the front of the canvas while I place the super magnet behind the canvas.
The super magnet is strong enough to hold the polymer covered tiles on the canvas.  They're moveable and interchangeable.
Above is a super magnet on the back of a smaller painting just to show you its placement.  If you get tired of the magnetic polymer clay tiles on the canvas, you can turn your refrigerator into a piece of art.

Fridge Magnet Jewelry

I receive magnetic business cards in the mail every once in a while.  I cover the business card side with liquid polymer, apply cane slices and bake.  They make beautiful fridge magnets.  I also discovered that by placing a super magnet under the blouse material, they could be worn as magnetic pins.
[Warning:  Pregnant women or persons with pacemakers should avoid wearing magnetic jewelry.]

Vintage Flower Brooch

I purchased this brooch at a fancy estate store outside of Chicago, Illinois twenty years ago.  I fell in love with the quirky little flowers and the metal work.  I was told a "story" of it being over 50 years old and from the collection of so and so (I always love hearing the stories).  None of it mattered though; it had me at the door.
