Translucent Flower Necklace

I made these flowers using Pardo Translucent clay colored with pastel chalks.  After baking and cooling, I painted the centers with blended alcohol inks.  I used headpins to thread through the center bead and form a loop for the jump ring.  I left a long length on the headpin for the tiny flowers so they would peek out between the flowers.  They are strung on a simple cable.

Needs Pruning

This was a case of not knowing when to stop.  I'm working on this one currently.  I'm going to try to cut & remove and re-work; do a little pruning.  But, it may be too late.

Vintage Flower Brooch

I purchased this brooch at a fancy estate store outside of Chicago, Illinois twenty years ago.  I fell in love with the quirky little flowers and the metal work.  I was told a "story" of it being over 50 years old and from the collection of so and so (I always love hearing the stories).  None of it mattered though; it had me at the door.

Polymer Flower Pins

I photographed these polymer clay pins on a dull gradient gray background because I thought it would make the colors pop.  Sometimes the end result I have in mind is not the end result I get.   I'll try another day.

Flowered Polymer Pendant

I was going to leave this blank, but then thought I would share the inspiration for the pendant.  We met with a financial planner who was talking about what my husband, as beneficiary, would have upon my death.   He used the phrase "while you're pushing up daisies", your husband will have X amount of dollars.  I really loved the fantasized concept of literally pushing up daisies...... sort of still creating in the after-life (he he).

Air Dry Polymer Clay Flowers #1

I've posted some of my air dry polymer clay sculpts before, but I thought I would repeat some because I'm in the mood for spring flowers. We're having tile put in two rooms and everything from those two rooms is stuffed everywhere else. So if I don't post for a few days, you'll know why. Hope you had a joyous Easter.

Little Tussie Mussies

More air dry polymer clay flowers, leaves and buds arranged in a small vase pin.
They are called lapel pins or boutonnieres.
I like mine overflowing.
I like adding sparkle with pearls and crystals and ribbons.
They are just sweet reminders that May flowers are just around the corner.

Air Dry Polymer Flowers

This is a short, but sweet post today. Just a couple of pins of made from air dry polymer clay. I beaded and wired some little baby's breath and glued them among the leaves. Added some gold cording and red velvet ribbon and have received lots of compliments on it.
This is a small pin with one sweet rose nestled among the tiny flowers, buds and leaves. These pins are so lightweight, it is unbelievable.
Sculpey Light is a good brand to try and so is Makins. You just need to have everything laid out ahead of time as you need to work quickly. The clay air drys in a matter of minutes, so you need to be prepared to work quickly. It really is a lot of fun. More tomorrow.

Flower Pins, Etc.

Alcohol inks painted on cured clay and baked again to set.
Above (overstated) and below (understated) are from the same form.
I should be photographing and getting things posted on Etsy, but instead I'm playing. I'll be whining about it next week.

What a Day!

I put the blacklight on my Alter Ego sculpture. Pretty funny. That will wake you up in the morning. Went to see Avatar at the show in 3-D and I guess that is what inspired the photo.
It was an eclectic day of studio time (besides playing with the blacklight). Finished one of my Flower Boxes to sell at the March Art Fair. I hand sculpt the flowers, leaves and buds from air dry polymer clay and then arrange them on a hand painted box.
We went to JoAnn's Fabrics and I bought a yard of the above fabric because I thought it was gorgeous. Not a clue what I am going to do with it, but I'm sure it will tell me.
Covered a cute little glass cup with my canes.
And finished a painting. Cleaned my studio and got my paintings ready for a showing at one of the local buildings here in Sun City West, AZ. I need to have them there by 9:30am. Until tomorrow....

Small Sculptures

I have found so many people online and off who love little figures with stories put to them. So, what is it all about (besides me, of course)? Creating! I gave it a try and it was a lot of fun. I'm not good at writing or telling stories, etc., but the pieces fell into place enough that they sold. It is one of the greatest feelings to have someone fall in love with one of your pieces and tell you that they "just have to have it."
This one is a little imp who has hidden your other boot and is thoroughly enjoying watching you spin out of control because you can't find it. They are sculpted from polymer clay, over a wire and foil armature, have acrylic eyes and have either polymer clay or air dry clay for wings and accessories. The boot was purchased.
