Inner Strength

October was breast cancer awareness month; this painting evolved from that.  I used the netting to depict the feeling of being trapped.  Physically, her right breast removed, loss of weight, color has changed and she has lost her hair.  Emotionally, scared beyond words, she feels emasculated, her femininity gone, and yet, she turns her nose up at it all.  She puts one foot in front of the other and fights.  She is proud of the strength that comes from being who she is; a woman.

Marlene, oh my! You have created something most powerful. I have a friend just starting to lose her beautiful hair as I type. One cannot know the emotions, but you have captured them. This is inspirational beyond words!

These paintings are very special, and I can see an entire gallery of them!

This is beautiful. I did a drawing for my sister that was very much like this. It is a connection.

What a beautiful portrait! Being a triple negative cancer survivor (6 yrs.), I experienced all those things. I also felt anger that the big "c" dare invade my body and reek havoc. That's when the fight began! :) Thank you so much for so beautifully capturing the whole experience in art form. Your description is spot on!
