Goin Riding

 I sculpted this guy a while ago.  I used ProSculpt polymer clay and made his clothes out of air dry polymer clay.  I purchased the damaged animal from Goodwill and fixed his broken ear with some Apoxie Sculpt and a touch of acrylic paint.  I thought the two made a good pair.

Gourd Sculpture Display

The head and arms are Apoxie Sculpt, gourd body is painted with acrylics, hair is string, basket is from Goodwill with the outside covered with air dry polymer clay.  I wove the fringe around the basket and painted the inside with acrylic paint.  She displays my bead crochet bracelets and necklaces.  

My inspiration was one of Retlaw Snellac's photos of a Turkana woman.  Turkana is the second largest pastoral community in Kenya.  I loved how her beadwork looked on her elongated neck.

Bead Crochet Necklace

Body and container are hand painted gourds.  Head is PaperClay, arms are polymer clay, bandanna is air dry polymer clay and the hair is fiber cording.  Her neck piece consists of beads sewn to a disk of air dry polymer clay.  I created her in 2011.  (click HERE)

I have also been bead crocheting while I'm recuperating. Finished one and have started another Native Stripes necklace which is half way done.  I'll post it tomorrow.

Air Dry Polymer Clay Flowers #1

I've posted some of my air dry polymer clay sculpts before, but I thought I would repeat some because I'm in the mood for spring flowers. We're having tile put in two rooms and everything from those two rooms is stuffed everywhere else. So if I don't post for a few days, you'll know why. Hope you had a joyous Easter.

Bottle Cap Cakes

I finished the rest of the bottle cap cakes. They will be going with the 5" baby dolls that I crocheted clothes for. I still have to add some polymer clay accessories and then I hope to put them up for sale. They are made by sculpting air dry polymer clay over the lids of pill bottles and soda and water bottles. I used various paints and liquid sculpey to frost them and used the air dry polymer clay to sculpt leaves and flowers to decorate them.

Polymer Clay Pipe Mold

Yesterday an Industrial Flower brooch; today, Pipes! I'm finishing some abstract art for our local art fair on Saturday. One of the paintings needed some pipe fittings. It is heavily textured with clear gels, pastes and thick lava gel, so the pipes could not be too heavy on the canvas. The air dry polymer clay was a perfect solution. The only problem is I only had enough for one pipe so I'm off to the store AGAIN!

Halloween Snowman?

I keep my molds, cutters, textures organized. I'm pretty good about it. So when this snowman cookie cutter showed up in my Halloween group, I was surprised to say the least. Oh, what the heck, I'll get a head start on the holidays while I'm working on Halloween. But, it kept bothering me; how the heck did I get them mixed up? Then, it hit me.......turn it around! That's no snowman; it's s a skull! The hubby came in to see what I was laughing at. He mumbled something about yesterday's post and where's that extra brain when you need it. Ha, ha, very funny.

A. B. Normal

Meet "A. B. Normal", a little brain food for my gruesome Halloween table. I used a Jello Mold and Makins Air Dry POLYMER Clay. The resulting impression was excellent; good definition and extremely lightweight. I sealed it with a high gloss finish to give it a "moist" appearance. This was really a lot of fun. In the process of doing this, I went through all my air dry polymer clays and finished using all of it on different projects which I will post later. I even used the REALLY old dried up hard packages. Happy October my friends!

Bottle Top Cakes

Remember the molds I made from the bottom of plastic bottles (click HERE)? Well, why not the lids? The little cakes in the back row are finished, but I am still working on the rest. This is air dry polymer clay applied over various plastic lids. When fully hardened, I decorated some with hand sculpted air dry polymer clay roses and leaves and some with dimensional paint. I remembered that I had done a demonstration on various brands of air dry polymer clay and dug these out. OK, two more areas (maybe 3) of a plastic bottle to experiment with. The hubby keeps walking by me, shaking his head, saying, "Stop already".

Air Dry Polymer Clay Necklace

I made this a while ago, but am trying to get better photos of it. The flowers, leaves, buds and sticks are hand sculpted from air dry polymer clay. I glued the pieces to a felt backing; keeping it light and easy to wear. It is amazingly durable.

Free To Be Me

I sculpted this piece over an aluminum foil armature. Her head is oven baked polymer clay and her head piece and body are no-bake polymer clay (air dry).

She has some steam punk detail, long, long eyelashes and glass eyes.

She is holding a free form peyote piece I am still working on. It has a ways to go yet. That's one of the aspects of free form bead sculpting I love. It's ever-changing.

I made this pin last year for Halloween and have been wearing the heck out of it.

It is made completely from air dry polymer clay which means it is extremely lightweight. Happy Halloween everyone!

Air Dry Polymer Clay

I made an attempt at porcelain-like shapes, but, it just didn't have the lightness and delicacy as the blues of yesterday. Ahh, yesterday when I was younger.

Polymer Fireworks

Today is my birthday! Happy birthday to me! I am enjoying every minute of it.

I sculpted these celebratory shapes from air dry polymer clay. They range in size from 8 x 10 to 10 x 14 and are extremely lightweight.

Little Tussie Mussies

More air dry polymer clay flowers, leaves and buds arranged in a small vase pin.

They are called lapel pins or boutonnieres.

I like mine overflowing.

I like adding sparkle with pearls and crystals and ribbons.

They are just sweet reminders that May flowers are just around the corner.

Air Dry Polymer Flowers

This is a short, but sweet post today. Just a couple of pins of made from air dry polymer clay. I beaded and wired some little baby's breath and glued them among the leaves. Added some gold cording and red velvet ribbon and have received lots of compliments on it.

This is a small pin with one sweet rose nestled among the tiny flowers, buds and leaves. These pins are so lightweight, it is unbelievable.

Sculpey Light is a good brand to try and so is Makins. You just need to have everything laid out ahead of time as you need to work quickly. The clay air drys in a matter of minutes, so you need to be prepared to work quickly. It really is a lot of fun. More tomorrow.

What a Day!

I put the blacklight on my Alter Ego sculpture. Pretty funny. That will wake you up in the morning. Went to see Avatar at the show in 3-D and I guess that is what inspired the photo.

It was an eclectic day of studio time (besides playing with the blacklight). Finished one of my Flower Boxes to sell at the March Art Fair. I hand sculpt the flowers, leaves and buds from air dry polymer clay and then arrange them on a hand painted box.

We went to JoAnn's Fabrics and I bought a yard of the above fabric because I thought it was gorgeous. Not a clue what I am going to do with it, but I'm sure it will tell me.

Covered a cute little glass cup with my canes.

And finished a painting. Cleaned my studio and got my paintings ready for a showing at one of the local buildings here in Sun City West, AZ. I need to have them there by 9:30am. Until tomorrow....
