Jewelry Displays

 

I purchased two large and one medium Craftable Foam Torsos (on the left) from JoAnn's Fabric.  I used handmade papers to cover them, sanded and applied another layer of the papers.  I sanded one more time, then sealed them with Mod Podge.  They fit perfectly on tall candlesticks.

Vintage Mannequin

 Bought this vintage torso at an antique shop in Prescott.  It fits perfectly in the space between the bookcase and the doorway.  Perfect for displaying long bead crochet necklaces.

I was so happy unearthing this treasure, I didn't care about carrying it two blocks to my car.  

Polymer Clay Transfer

The polymer clay transfer is about 5"x7" mounted on an 8"x11" piece of distressed wood painted black and sanded.  It makes a nice backdrop for displaying necklaces.  It is really fun doing a large transfer on polymer clay.

Blogging Again

Over a month since my last post!  How quickly time goes by!  I have been teaching, painting, crocheting, beading, shopping, boating and best of all….spending time with family!  Our son got married on the 15th!  It was so beautiful.  I didn't want the day to end.  Now that things are getting back to normal (is there such a thing?),  I'm back in the studio creating messes; hopefully posting a little more frequently.

Art Dolls as Jewelry Displays

 

 I finished three of the art dolls that will display beadwork.  The tallest one, Undirra, is 32" high.  Minista is 20" tall and Bisari is 13" tall.

Displaying Bead Crochet

 I like creatively displaying my jewelry, even at home.  Above, I mixed up some Apoxie Sculpt and attached it to one of my paintings.  I particularly like this one.

In the green one, I used Command Picture Hanging Strips.  After taking this photo, I can see that the painting needs lighter color, muted tones and a strong transition from dark to light.  But, I'm happy with the Command Strips.  Tomorrow is our local art fair.  I painted some abstracts portraits and a couple of paintings that took on a life of their own.  I will be posting soon.

Displays

 I used Apoxie Sculpt to create some "U" shaped hooks and then painted them to blend into the painting.   It has sparked an idea of using some small mixed media pieces as the hooks so that when the jewelry was removed, the painting would stand on its own.

 The art fair is a lot of work, but when it is over, I am so psyched to do another just based on the nice people I meet who take time to talk.

 As I am aging, I realize my time and health are limited and it is only a matter of time that I will not be able to an art fair.  Enjoying this past fair was a treat.  I am thankful.

Altered Jewelry Display

 I found  a broken Star Wars "Mace Windu" toy at a rummage store and a tall candle holder at Goodwill.  The bottom of the toy fit perfectly on the top of the candle holder. I liked that the toy's arms were moveable and sturdy.  All I had to to was add some Apoxie Sculpt to his thumbs to make them longer and more "hook-like" and paint them.  Then I used the Apoxie Sculpt to attach him to the candle holder.  When the Apoxie Sculpt was cured, I painted it.  It measures 8" x 25".  Besides Mace, I had a few whimsical pieces here and there throughout my booth at the art fair.  I loved when people "got it" and laughed out loud.

Fall Art Fair 2013

Last Saturday was our local fall art fair.  Early morning set-up was chilly, but a couple of hours later it was sunny, hot and buzzing with people.  Steampunk Annie made her debut and certainly did her part in bringing people in.  I moved her around throughout the day.  I can't wait to start adding bits and pieces of metal to her and change her bird wig to something more futuristic.

I did a polymer clay demo which seemed to help sell my polymer jewelry.  I had fun, did well and am extremely grateful I have a patient and supportive husband.  Also a big thank you to my friends Paula and Opal for letting me take a couple of welcomed breaks.

Revolving Jewelry Display

It displays 45 to 50 necklaces in an 18" diameter space.  It is a formidable display when sitting on a table or counter as it stands 45" high.

After attaching the base and top, I added the jewelry hangers and hung the cork necklaces.  I dressed it in a pretty blue top and added some of my bead crochet necklaces.  It all comes apart so I can store it, but I like it so much, I'm going to use it in my studio.  But, I am so glad it was finished in time for this Saturday's art air.

Jewelry Display

I'm in California spending time with friends and family who are nurturing my soul and lifting my spirits.  So a post of an abstract painting I made as a display for this bead crochet rope.  Be back soon.  Hope your holiday season has started out with kindness and joy!

Abstract Jewelry Display

I am using some of my abstract paintings as jewelry displays.  They were a big a bit hit Saturday at our local art fair here in Sun City West, Arizona.

Anthropology Displays

 Anthropology has the coolest displays, artwork and furniture.  Yes, their clothing, dishware, linens and accessories are great, but the inspirational art pieces everywhere you look are phenomenal.

 Love this hanger chair.

Hanging from the ceiling were extremely large felt/fiber art works.  Can't go wrong combining art with shopping.

Gourd Sculpture Display

The head and arms are Apoxie Sculpt, gourd body is painted with acrylics, hair is string, basket is from Goodwill with the outside covered with air dry polymer clay.  I wove the fringe around the basket and painted the inside with acrylic paint.  She displays my bead crochet bracelets and necklaces.  

My inspiration was one of Retlaw Snellac's photos of a Turkana woman.  Turkana is the second largest pastoral community in Kenya.  I loved how her beadwork looked on her elongated neck.

Gourd in Progress

I'm starting a new gourd sculpture.  I looked at this gourd and saw a figure of a woman holding a basket or blanket full of colorful pieces.  Since I wanted a display for some of my bead crochet, I think this might be it.

Unique Displays

Very cool displays at the Clothes Hound in Prescott, Arizona.  Everywhere I looked, I smiled.

Shoes for dancing to those old records.  Plywood shelving, walls and displays showcased the owner, Candy Hull's fun accessories, jewelry, handbags, shoes and women's apparel.

It wasn't just shopping, it was an experience.  Seriously fun.

See the little red bowl to the bottom right of their window?  It was kept full of fresh water for the puppies lucky enough to be shopping "The Square" in Prescott, Arizona.  So, if you are in the area, stop by Candy's shop at 122 S. Montezuma in Prescott and enjoy!

Polymer Clay Note Holder

I made this necklace a while ago. When I rolled the logs and cut the ends, I saved them by building a little pyramid. Maybe it would become a paperweight, or part of a sculpture; I didn't know. I needed something to hold the small signs for last Saturday's art fair and this popped in my head. Perfect. Drilled some holes in a few of the little plugs and curled some wire. I didn't glue the wires in because they fit snugly and it is easier to store without the wires. That little scrap pyramid really came in handy.

Altered Art Jewelry Display #4

This was fun to put together. A while ago, I made a necklace of the Cracker Jacks' toys I collected as a kid. I decided to make a "toy" display to showcase it. There are new buttons, old cars, trains, vintage piggies and bears, etc. My favorite is the Fischer Price guy that belonged to our kids when they were small. Kind of a full circle thing. I will be using the display at our local art fair this Saturday to display another necklace. I am almost done with everything.
